For those that want to study the Havamal, this is the perfect book for it. It has the original text, three English translations AND a page for notes broken out by each verse.
The original Norse, 3 English translations, and each opposing page is for notes; so, there is a lot of room as you go back over the stanzas again. I have the paperback, and it's still a thick, heavy book. Must have for your library if you're exploring Norse/Germanic Heathenism.
Carrie Overton has done an outstanding job putting together this edition of the Havamal. The original Old Norse and three different English translations for each Stanza makes it THE must have version of this book. The added pages for writing personal notes is a particularly nice touch. I very well may need to order a second copy for myself as I've filled the note pages already. Yes, it's a large book but for all Heathens and Asatruar ( Folkish or otherwise), it's a must have resource. You can tell the amount of work, time, and care that went into compiling this book of wisdom. I've recommended it to everyone I know and will continue to do so. You can't find a better deal at this price either. Keep up the good work and may the gods continue to guide you. Five out of five stars.
Was pleasantly surprised - read several versions, first time I could compare them verse by verse. Love it - will be read multiple times and shared/recommended.
Really cool breakdown for someone new to the material and really trying to learn. The original and three translations are on the left side and note space on the right so that the reader can make notes. Really love this!
I'm excited to have this book in our library! There isn't anything like it out there. Besides the original stanzas in Old Norse, there are three different translations of each verse under the original. And a lined journaling page next to it for your thoughts. As the author explains, the numbering of the verses is consistent with the Old Norse. The numbering of each of the verse translations may be the same or differ according to the translator. Thank you so much for this wonderful book! Affordable for Yule gifts too!
This is a must for all Heathen Hofs and Homes . We use this copy also in our Homeschooling. Not only do you get three of the best English translations you also get one in Old Norse , along with a page for notes or use it to create a translation in the runes .
