Review

"Recent books touting atheism have been grounded more on dyspepsia than on dispassionate reason. In this book John considers the best, most recent science from physics and biology, and demonstrates that the picture looks far different from what we've been told."  —Michael Behe, author, Darwin's Black Box, on God's Undertaker"A brilliantly argued re-evaluation of the relation of science and religion, casting welcome new light on today's major debates. A must-read for all reflecting on the greatest questions of life."  —Alister McGrath, author, Glimpsing the Face of God on God's Undertaker"[An] erudite and wide-ranging guide."—The Vessel Project

I am an evangelical Christian actively engaged in defending the faith every day, mostly online, but personally also. I am always looking for good reading resources so that I might be better equipped to answer the now routine responses I get from my atheistic antagonists. Lennox's book is so far the best and most readable I have found. This was an excellent purchase, indeed, an investment worth much more than the money spent. Indeed, Lennox covers the topics of the New Atheists in a way that no others have done so far, at least in my own view. I have read Greg Bahnsen, who I had previously considered one of the best. But Lennox is now my "go-to" guy, whose writings are lucid and readable for even a dummy like me. But in comparison to Alvin Plantinga, Lennox is far clearer in his information and presentation. Plantinga, though very fine for some readers, is far too obscure for the average reader. I need stuff that helps me in the public marketplace of ideas, and Lennox delivers for me. I highly recommend this book for Christian believers - well, for atheists too, but they are less apt to read it for they have a priori ruled out any connection with their Christian opponents.

The evidence it's overwhelming. It takes more blind faith to have a naturalistic worldview than to believe in a creator.

Brilliant and often entertaining analysis of the flawed logic of the new atheists. Professor Lennox identifies the newness of the new atheists by their aggressively militant attacks on deist and especially on Christian belief. He shows that they don't just deny such belief; they treat it as a cultural disease and seek to destroy it. Then, with his characteristic humor, he lays bare the logical flaws in their arguments, often with homely examples that readers will easily remember. Finally, as in his writing and thinking generally, he explains the uniqueness of Christian faith in answering the unavoidable questions of life and in providing meaning and hope in the face of the pain and suffering that life sometimes brings and in the face of the universal experience of death.

Using logic, reason, experience, Revelation, and humor Lennox again takes on the weak arguments of the post-modern unbelievers. New Atheists, as he calls them, really are anti-theists who demand allegiance to their own set of beliefs and rejection of faith. Lennox aims to show that they are wrong and succeeds convincingly in this easily read book. He shows that faith and science are consistent and refutes the illogic of the aggressive foes of faith. He addresses morality, the true and undistorted nature of God, atonement explanations, and miracles, and throughout he reveals the emptiness of the New Theists' philosophy. Interestingly, he notes that his discussion of the Resurrection has few arguments from the New Atheists because, in spite of their insistence on evidence before anything can be believed, they largely dismiss the evidence of Christ's Resurrection.Lennox, a mathematician and professor, is a giant among modern apologists, and this book, like others he has written, is another invaluable resource for those interested in defending the faith against its aggressive foes.

It can be hazardous to expect to much from a book written by some one you have heard speak once or twice. I expected this book to be an exceptional one based on hearing Dr Lennox speak a couple times. He exceeded my expectation considerably. This book is well worth the time to read and I will likely reread it in the near future.

Excellent read, for people from all walks of life. Opens people within their own assumptions, which will make them see and evaluate their worldview.

Really, really good book! Somehow the author covers a great deal of complicated information but very understandable, very clear analysis of issues involved

John Lennox is quite an intellectual but has a very easy to read writing style. A thought provoking book and one you will find intellectually challenging. Well worth the money.
